The opening of a large museum dedicated to the Spanish painter in a former abbey in Aix-en-Provence has been announced. Catherine Hutin-Blay, the Spanish artist’s daughter-in-law is at the origin of this large-scale project.
On the programme: more than 2,000 works, including 1,000 paintings, making it THE LARGEST Picasso collection…in the world! Catherine Hutin-Blay has just confirmed that the museum will open in 2021. It will extend from the former convent and Preachers’ College to the ambulatory of the Madeleine church in Aix-en-Provence.
The Jacqueline and Pablo Picasso Museum will thus be the third Picasso Museum in France (after the one in Paris and Vallauris, in the Var), it will cover 4,600 m2 and will be spread over three levels, where there will be temporary contemporary collections, a documentation center on the artist with pottery and engraving workshops open to the public, as well as a 200-seat auditorium
In all, nearly 2,000 works will be on display, more than the collections of Paris, Antibes, Malaga and Barcelona combined… Looking forward to 2021 !
