Since 1789, the Opera of Marseille has been one of the major cultural elements of this city. An architectural jewel, it has been designated a historical monument since 1997. Along with that of Mexico, it is one of only two Art Deco operas in the world.
The Opera of Marseille provides enterprises with the auditorium and reception rooms, so it’s possible to organize all kinds of events, e.g. private parties, galas, seminars and conferences. The auditorium, dressed in red, gold and silver, with its amphitheater, its balconies and its lodges, seats 1,830 spectators. The Ernest Reyer Foyer, which measures 200m², can accommodate up to 100 people for dinner and 300 for cocktails. The stairs of honor with the parquet laced with motifs of exotic species in ebony, accord perfectly well with the shades of the Augustin Carrera ceiling, portraying the legend of Orpheus. Small Ducreux and Karpo rooms, with decorated panels of mythological subjects by the painter Jean Julien, are frequently hired for private cocktails, especially during intermissions.
